Free Excel to PDF Converter — Convert XLS/XLSX to PDF Online

Convert any Excel spreadsheet (XLS, XLSX, or CSV) to a professional, print-ready PDF document in seconds. Upload your file, click Convert, and download the result instantly. The converter preserves cell formatting, column widths, merged cells, borders, colours, and embedded charts so your PDF looks exactly like the original spreadsheet.

PDFs are the universal format for sharing documents because they look identical on every device and operating system. Converting your Excel reports, invoices, and data tables to PDF ensures recipients see exactly what you intended — no shifted columns, no missing fonts, no compatibility issues between Excel versions.

When Should You Convert Excel to PDF?

  • Sharing reports — send financial reports, sales data, and project timelines as PDF so recipients cannot accidentally edit formulas or data
  • Invoicing — convert your Excel invoice template to PDF before emailing clients for a professional, tamper-proof document
  • Printing — PDF preserves exact page layout, margins, and scaling across all printers — no "shrink to fit" surprises
  • Archiving — store spreadsheet snapshots as PDF for regulatory compliance, audit trails, or version history
  • Presentations — embed Excel charts and tables as PDF pages in slide decks without clipboard quality loss
  • Email attachments — PDF files are smaller and open instantly on all devices, unlike XLSX which requires Excel or Google Sheets

How the Conversion Works

  1. Upload your file — drag and drop or click to browse. Supports .xls, .xlsx, and .csv formats up to the server limit.
  2. Server-side rendering — the file is opened by LibreOffice (when available) or a high-quality PDF rendering engine that accurately interprets Excel formatting.
  3. PDF generation — each worksheet is rendered to a paginated PDF with proper print areas, headers, footers, and page breaks.
  4. Download — click the download button to save the converted PDF to your device. The file is automatically deleted from the server after a short period.

What Gets Preserved in the Conversion?

Preserved
  • Cell formatting (bold, italic, colours, fonts)
  • Column widths and row heights
  • Merged cells and borders
  • Charts and embedded images
  • Print areas and page breaks
  • Headers and footers
Not preserved (by design)
  • Formulas (converted to static values)
  • Macros / VBA code
  • Cell comments (may appear as printed notes)
  • Conditional formatting (shows current state only)
  • Data validation dropdowns
  • Active hyperlinks (shown as text)

Tips for Best Results

  • Set Print Area before converting — in Excel, select the cells you want and go to Page Layout > Print Area > Set Print Area. The converter respects this setting.
  • Use Page Break Preview — check View > Page Break Preview in Excel to see exactly where pages will split in the PDF output.
  • Adjust column widths — wide columns that overflow the page will be cut off. Resize columns to fit within A4/Letter width before converting.
  • Remove hidden sheets — hidden worksheets are sometimes included in the conversion. Delete or unhide sheets you do not want in the PDF.
  • Use Page Layout > Fit to 1 page wide — this prevents columns from overflowing onto a second page width.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this converter free?

Yes, completely free. No account, no sign-up, no watermarks. Convert as many files as you need.

Are my Excel files stored on your server?

No. Uploaded files and generated PDFs are processed in memory and temporary files are automatically deleted. We do not store, view, or share your data.

What is the maximum file size?

Most spreadsheets under 20MB convert instantly. Very large files with many charts or embedded images may take a few seconds longer.

Will my formulas be preserved?

Formulas are evaluated and converted to their current values in the PDF. The PDF shows the final result of each cell, not the formula behind it. This is by design — PDFs are static documents.

Can I convert multiple sheets at once?

Yes. If your workbook has multiple sheets, all visible sheets are included in the output PDF as separate pages (in sheet order). Hidden sheets are typically excluded.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The page is fully responsive. Upload an Excel file from your phone or tablet and download the converted PDF directly to your device.
